Ojai Oasis
Pure Salt // furnishing only
Set in the golden hills of Ojai, this home unfolds like a quiet dialogue between architecture and landscape—an organic vision shaped by light, air, and a deeply intuitive sense of ease. Sunlight moves generously through the interiors, tracing arched thresholds and soft plaster walls, dissolving boundaries between inside and out. Every view feels intentionally composed yet entirely unforced, as if the landscape itself were part of the architecture’s original design.
Furnishings layer into this setting with a romantic restraint. Richly textured materials, sculptural silhouettes, and a warm, lived-in sensibility that softens the home’s structure without competing with it. Pieces were chosen for their ability to hold presence without heaviness: curved forms that echo the home’s archways, tactile textiles that invite touch, and natural finishes that deepen with time and use.
The result is a series of rooms that feel less “designed” and more inhabited as spaces that breathe, gather light, and quietly evolve throughout the day. There is a deliberate imperfection to the layering, a sense that everything has been collected slowly, as if over years rather than moments. In its entirety, the home is both grounded and ethereal. It carries the ease of California living while feeling distinctly of its place: sun-washed, intimate, and alive with subtle rhythm. A study in restraint and warmth, where architecture and furnishing meet not as separate gestures, but as one continuous expression of home.
01 The Outdoors
Anchored by multiple outdoor dining spaces, an expansive lounge, and framed with mature olive trees, the backyard is designed for year-round use and effortless entertaining. Low, generous seating arrangements invite conversation at every angle, while layered neutral textiles and organic silhouettes soften the architecture and echo the home’s interior palette.
A covered living area extends the comfortable interior outward, creating a true outdoor room framed by natural textures—woven materials, warm woods, and understated stonework. The result is a setting that feels both elevated and relaxed, equally suited for large gatherings or quiet evenings under the open sky.
True to the project’s intent, the design blurs the line between inside and out, with large openings that visually and physically connect the interior living spaces to the backyard. The landscape design reinforces this flow, with soft greenery and native plantings that bring depth without overpowering the architecture. The overall effect is quintessential Pure Salt: refined but unfussy, layered yet restrained, and deeply rooted in a lifestyle that celebrates comfort, connection, and the ease of California outdoor living.
02 The Living Areas
The interior living spaces are defined by a quiet, continuous flow. Where boundaries soften and each room opens effortlessly to the next, and to the landscape beyond. Expansive openings invite the outdoors in, allowing light, air, and views to become an integral part of the experience. The result is a home that feels in constant dialogue with its surroundings, grounded in the ease of indoor–outdoor living.
Architectural details lend depth and character at every turn. Hand-applied plaster walls create a soft, luminous backdrop, while exposed wood beams introduce warmth and rhythm overhead. Arched passages guide movement throughout the home, adding a sense of gentle procession and reinforcing the organic language of the architecture.
Within this framework, the furnishings are carefully curated to complement rather than compete. Sculptural silhouettes, natural materials, and a restrained, tonal palette bring a sense of cohesion and calm. Each piece was selected for its ability to feel both elevated and approachable, layered in a way that invites use while maintaining a refined sensibility.
Together, the interiors strike a delicate balance: architectural and expressive, yet effortless and livable. A series of spaces that feel connected, considered, and quietly attuned to the rhythms of everyday life.
03 The Kitchen
The kitchen is conceived as both a focal point and a quiet backdrop. At its center, a monolithic marble island anchors the space; its generous proportions invite gathering, while woven barstools introduce warmth and texture, grounding the stone with an easy, tactile contrast.
Surrounding the island, the architecture speaks in a subtle, sun-washed language. Plaster walls diffuse light throughout the space, while exposed wood beams add a note of rustic rhythm overhead. The palette remains intentionally restrained—warm whites, natural woods, and stone—allowing the materiality to take precedence over ornament.
Expansive doors dissolve the boundary between kitchen and landscape, opening fully to an outdoor living area framed by greenery and distant mountain views. This seamless connection transforms the kitchen into more than a place of function. It becomes part of a larger, continuous living experience shaped by light, air, and movement.
Every detail is considered yet unforced, creating a kitchen that feels both elevated and deeply livable. A space where sculptural form meets everyday utility, and where the rituals of daily life unfold against a backdrop of quiet, enduring beauty.
04 Guest Suites
The two guest suites are conceived as quiet sanctuaries—spaces that open gently to the landscape while maintaining a sense of intimacy and retreat. Each room is bathed in natural light, with expansive windows and doors that frame views of the surrounding greenery and invite the outdoors in. The connection to nature is immediate yet serene, creating an atmosphere that feels both grounding and restorative.
Designed with a restrained, thoughtful hand, the interiors embrace a soft material palette—plaster walls, natural woods, and layered textiles that add warmth without excess. Furnishings are intentionally minimal yet deeply considered, allowing each piece to contribute to a feeling of calm and ease.
Though private in their placement, the suites remain inherently inviting. Spaces that welcome rest, reflection, and slow mornings shaped by light and air. The result is a pair of rooms that feel effortlessly comfortable and quietly elevated, offering guests a sense of escape that is both peaceful and deeply connected to the rhythms of the home and its surroundings.
05 The Dining Areas
The home offers two distinct dining experiences, each thoughtfully designed to reflect a different rhythm of gathering.
Just off the kitchen, the primary dining space is open, light-filled, and effortlessly connected to its surroundings. Expansive windows invite in the landscape, while the easy flow between kitchen and living areas creates a natural setting for everyday meals and casual entertaining. The atmosphere is bright and relaxed, where sunlight, soft materials, and an airy layout set the tone for long, unhurried gatherings.
In contrast, a secondary dining nook offers a more intimate and atmospheric experience. Tucked within a series of arched built-ins, this space feels enveloped and quietly refined. The architecture creates a sense of depth and enclosure, lending itself to moodier moments: dinner parties that linger into the evening, or quiet meals that feel a touch more personal. Layered textures and curated details enhance the warmth, giving the space a collected, almost old-world charm.
Together, the two spaces create a dynamic approach to entertaining—one open and sunlit, the other intimate and immersive—allowing the home to adapt to any occasion.
