Celebrating 10 Years: Inside the New Pure Salt Shoppe & Design Studio

Ten years ago,

Pure Salt began with a simple belief: that thoughtfully designed spaces have the power to shape the way we live. What started as a small interior design studio has grown into a full-service design firm, retail destination, and community built around a shared appreciation for timeless design, natural materials, and homes that feel deeply personal.

As we celebrate our tenth anniversary year, we're honored to open the doors to a new chapter—a permanent home for Pure Salt in the heart of Newport Beach.

More than a retail store or design studio, this space was envisioned as an extension of our philosophy. Every room was designed to inspire, invite conversation, and showcase the craftsmanship, artistry, and intentionality that define our work. From the moment you walk through the front doors, we hope the experience feels less like shopping and more like stepping into a home.

Creating a space of this scale was a true collaborative effort. Everything inside is like a love letter to Newport Beach and our design partners, from the tradespeople, to the materials & finishes, to fixtures and products, there is a lot of thoughtful design and precious care that went into the creation of 314 Old Newport Blvd. We are lucky to have had the privilege of partnering with an incredible community of brands, artisans, makers, and local businesses who shared in our vision and helped bring each corner of the space to life. Their generosity, craftsmanship, and expertise are woven throughout every room, and we're excited to share their stories alongside ours.

The Shoppe

The retail floor was designed as a series of layered living environments rather than traditional merchandising displays. Each vignette tells its own story while maintaining a sense of cohesion throughout the space, allowing visitors to imagine how pieces might live together in their own homes.

Natural textures, handcrafted furnishings, vintage accents, and collected objects create an atmosphere that feels warm, lived-in, and effortlessly timeless. Every detail was considered—from the flow between rooms to the balance of materials, light, and scale—to create an experience that encourages exploration.

The Design Studio

Beyond the Shoppe is the heart of our creative practice: the Pure Salt Design Studio.

This is where concepts begin, materials are thoughtfully layered, and ideas evolve into homes tailored to each client's lifestyle. Designed to foster creativity and collaboration, the studio reflects the same principles we bring to every project—natural materials, functional beauty, and spaces that support meaningful work.

Whether meeting with clients, reviewing samples, or developing custom furnishings, every area was intentionally planned to inspire both our team and those we welcome into the design process.

Our Team Spaces

Just as much care was given to the spaces our team uses every day.

Behind the scenes, our operations offices were designed to support collaboration while feeling connected to the warmth and character found throughout the rest of the building. We believe beautiful environments aren't reserved only for the spaces guests see—they should also enrich the daily experience of the people who bring our work to life.

From shared workspaces to quiet corners for focused creativity, every detail reflects our belief that thoughtful design has the ability to elevate everyday moments.

Warren Christopher

The foundation of every thoughtfully designed space begins from the ground up, and the flooring throughout our Newport Beach Shoppe and Design Studio sets the tone for everything that follows. We partnered with Warren Christopher to bring warmth, texture, and timeless character to the space, selecting hardwood flooring that complements our natural design philosophy while standing up to the daily rhythm of a working studio and retail environment. The rich wood tones create a sense of continuity throughout each room, grounding every vignette and providing the perfect backdrop for the layered materials, handcrafted furnishings, and collected pieces that define the Pure Salt aesthetic.

Fineline Finishes

Some of the most impactful design elements are the ones you don't immediately notice—and the paint and plaster finishes throughout our Newport Beach Shoppe and Design Studio are a perfect example. We're incredibly grateful to Fineline Finishes for generously providing both the materials and expert craftsmanship that brought these walls to life.

Led by Jake—who also happens to be part of the Pure Salt family as Leigh's cousin—Fineline Finishes helped transform the space with four distinct plaster applications, each showcasing its own unique depth, texture, and character. Rather than limiting these finishes to a single area, we intentionally incorporated them throughout the Shoppe and Design Studio so clients can experience firsthand how each technique catches the light, complements natural materials, and influences the overall feel of a space.

These thoughtfully executed surfaces serve not only as beautiful architectural details but also as an interactive design resource. As part of our Shoppe Design Services, clients can now explore plaster finishes in person and incorporate them into their own homes with confidence. It's a meaningful addition to our design offerings and a reflection of our shared appreciation for handcrafted materials, timeless techniques, and the lasting beauty that thoughtful finishes bring to a home.

Discover Pure Finishes

Concretti Designs

Every detail within our Design Studio was chosen with the intention of elevating everyday moments—including the spaces often overlooked. In Aly and Leigh’s office bathroom, Concretti Designs generously contributed a sculptural wall-mounted concrete sink that brings artistry and function together in a beautifully understated way. Its clean lines, organic texture, and handcrafted character embody the quiet sophistication we gravitate toward, proving that even the most utilitarian spaces can become moments of thoughtful design.

Mullan Lighting

Lighting is one of the final layers that gives a space its atmosphere, and the handcrafted fixtures from Mullan Lighting bring warmth and character to our Newport Beach Shoppe and Design Studio, both inside and out. From the outdoor lanterns that welcome guests upon arrival to the bathroom sconces that cast a soft, inviting glow, each made-to-order fixture was thoughtfully selected to complement the home's timeless, collected aesthetic. Finished in a beautiful antique brass, the pieces introduce a sense of quiet elegance that will continue to patina gracefully over time—celebrating the beauty of craftsmanship and materials designed to last for years to come.

Tempaper & Co.

Even the spaces designed for our team deserve thoughtful attention, and our employee dining nook is no exception. Tempaper & Co. provided the wallpaper that brings this cozy corner to life, featuring the Anatolia Stipe pattern in taupe from our collaborative Pure Salt x Tempaper collection. The soft raised texture and timeless design add warmth and personality, transforming an everyday gathering space into one that feels inspiring, welcoming, and distinctly Pure Salt.

Over in the store, visitors will also find a dedicated display showcasing the full Pure Salt x Tempaper collection. Featuring each pattern and colorway, the sample wall offers clients the opportunity to experience the designs up close, explore the nuances of each print, and envision how they might bring character and depth to their own homes

Orange Product Design

Thoughtful lighting has the power to shape the experience of a space, and we're grateful to Orange Product Design for helping illuminate so many of the moments that make our Newport Beach Shoppe and Design Studio feel warm and inviting. Each fixture was selected to complement our natural, understated aesthetic while supporting the functionality of our everyday workspaces. With clean lines and timeless silhouettes, the lighting seamlessly integrates into each environment, adding warmth and quiet sophistication while enhancing the welcoming atmosphere we envisioned for our new home.

Palecek

Palecek generously contributed two statement lighting fixtures that anchor some of the most visible spaces within our Newport Beach Shoppe and Design Studio. Featured in the living room vignette at the front of the Shoppe and in our design conference room, each fixture serves as both a functional light source and a sculptural focal point. Known for their exceptional craftsmanship and organic materiality, Palecek's designs bring warmth, texture, and timeless character to each space, beautifully complementing the layered, natural aesthetic that defines our approach to design.

Built Together

While this new space represents an exciting milestone for Pure Salt, it also reflects something much larger than ourselves.

It is the result of countless talented hands, trusted relationships, and a community of partners who believed in our vision from the very beginning. We're incredibly grateful to every brand, artisan, craftsman, contractor, and collaborator who contributed their expertise to this project.
