An Elegant Kansas Family Retreat

Built on the lush fairways of the Flint Hills Golf Course in Andover, Kansas, the Flint Hills Project brings midwestern charm and hospitality to life in a home that centers gathering and family with bright, airy spaces, warm and inviting textures, and thoughtful touches in every room.

This generous three-story residence—about 7,000 square feet—was custom-designed for a young family of five and represents a seamless blend of old-world substance and modern livability: classic farmhouse underpinnings, transitional modern touches, and timeless craftsmanship. Each room was conceived to honor tradition and deliver comfort—to feel like a family home as much as a curated retreat.

01 Entry

Far beyond four walls and finishes, Flint Hills stands as a full expression of what Pure Salt does best: combining refined heritage, everyday practicality, and design that tells a story. Cozy corners are found wherever you turn, with a mix of natural textiles, and a layered color palette of warm and neutral earth tones. The goal was to create rooms that feel comfortable, yet elevated. Family-friendly, as well as refined.

02 Bonus Spaces

Complete with a gym, movie theater, wine room, and office this home has all the amenities to keep this family entertained and busy. By bringing the outdoors in through natural materials and textures, we were able to emphasize the beauty of the surrounding landscape, making all the creature comforts feel integrated and intentional.

03 Living Room

The living room is grounded in a consistent use of natural wood—from floors to built-in shelving to custom fireplace mantels and inset cabinets. This continuity creates visual harmony across the home’s public spaces.

Here, neutral upholstery and nested coffee tables encourage intimacy and gathering; everything feels layered but understated. The result: a space that welcomes everyday family life and gracious entertaining with equal ease.

04 Kitchen

At the core of the home, the kitchen is a testament to careful design. A custom island, integrated cabinetry in warm wood tones, and refined finishes make it both functional and elegant.

Open but purposeful, the layout supports cooking, gathering, and daily rhythms without compromising on aesthetic. It’s a kitchen that feels timeless — rooted in tradition, yet shaped for modern life.

05 Dining Room

For larger meals and hosting, the dining room delivers classic charm and transitional styling. Clean lines, neutral tones, durable natural-fiber rugs, and built-in cabinetry/buffet storage support both refinement and practicality. The space is versatile — equally suited for everyday family dinners or more formal gatherings.

06 Primary Suite

The primary bedroom carries the home’s aesthetic forward with cozy neutrals, soft textures, and thoughtful proportions. High ceilings meet understated design, creating a restful retreat that’s as elegant as it is livable. Here, tranquility and timelessness meet—a space designed for repose, careful curation, and subtle luxury without excess.

The attached ensuite feels like a boutique hotel, with a mix of vintage-inspired fixtures and modernly influenced finishes for a charming and relaxing retreat.

07 Basement

WIth three young children, the kid spaces of this home are designed to adapt and grow. Natural wood, neutral palettes, soft textiles, their design is suited for the playful sensibility of these younger years, while remaining timeless and able to grow with the kids as they mature.

The lower basement level is where cozy living happens. From a functional galley wet bar, to a playful kids’ room with bunk beds and creative layout solutions, to cozy family/media and entertainment rooms, the home’s additional spaces are designed for movement, flexibility, and real life.

Even utilitarian spaces like laundry or mudrooms are approached with design intelligence, avoiding the “afterthought” label and instead becoming part of the home’s cohesive narrative.

08 Outdoors

Designed to enjoy the abundant nature on which this property sits, the backyard features plenty of zones to relax and gather, including a covered pool house that echoes the architecture of the main home. Woven lighting, ambient furnishings, and comfortable lounging zones create an indoor-outdoor lifestyle that feels both relaxed and intentional.
