Set against the rolling hills and ocean breezes of Palos Verdes, this reimagined California ranch house is a study in warmth, restraint, and modern ease. The home was envisioned as a true reflection of its owners, a couple who love to entertain, cook, and gather, who cherish their dog and imagine future family moments here. The design celebrates beauty and functionality in equal measure, transforming a modest footprint into a home that feels expansive, connected, and deeply livable.
Rooted in the charm of classic ranch architecture, the home is grounded, open, and deeply tied to the land. Every inch was thoughtfully maximized to honor California’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle, from the flow of light through large-scale openings to the continuity of materials that carry from interior to exterior. The palette stays close to nature: warm woods, sun-washed neutrals, and soft organic textures that create calm cohesion throughout.
Natural oak beams, paneled walls, and wide-plank floors anchor the interiors with texture and authenticity. Light dances across hand-troweled plaster and honed stone, giving each surface a sense of movement. The result is a home that feels both timeless and distinctly of today, a modern ranch reimagined for a new generation.
01 Entry
The entry sets the tone, a balance of welcome and simplicity. A split Dutch door in vertical oak opens to light-filled warmth, where every material feels intentional and alive. A pared-back console and a weathered ceramic vessel echo the surrounding hillsides, while a woven rug softens the moment underfoot. Subtle details—aged brass, soft plaster, and quiet reflection—speak to the home’s character: natural, tactile, and layered with ease.
02 Kitchen
The kitchen serves as the heart of the home, the anchor around which life unfolds. Designed for owners who love to cook and entertain, it features a double island, offering space for both prep and gathering. Function and beauty intertwine here: creamy cabinetry, stained oak islands, and softly veined stone create a timeless palette warmed by brass fixtures that will patina over time.
A sculpted plaster hood provides an architectural focal point, while woven stools and organic greenery infuse the room with texture and life. Every surface was considered for both durability and delight, a true reflection of Pure Salt’s belief that practicality and beauty can exist side by side.
03 Dining Room
Framed by an arched opening and bathed in California light, the dining room embodies the soul of this modern ranch. The farmhouse oak table, surrounded by cane-backed chairs, invites long dinners and lingering conversation. Linen, stoneware, and hand-blown glass layer softness and craft, while doors that open to the outdoors blur the line between interior and landscape.
It’s a space that celebrates connection, both with nature and with one another. This dining room is a true continuation of the kitchen’s heart into a place of everyday gathering and shared joy.
04 Living Room
In the living room, natural light filters through linen drapery, illuminating a palette of sand, rattan, and oak. The design balances comfort and refinement, mixing linen upholstery, leather accents, and handcrafted details. Framed views to the backyard create an easy dialogue between indoors and out, while plush textures encourage everyday living that feels both relaxed and elevated.
05 Powder Room
Just off the main hall, the powder room offers a moment of quiet contrast. Smooth plaster walls shift in tone from warm taupe to smoky gray, creating an intimate space. A custom oak vanity and brass fixtures ground the design in natural materials, while soft light and subtle texture lend atmosphere and calm. Proof that even the smallest rooms can carry depth and soul.
06 Primary Suite
The primary suite serves as the emotional heart of the home—a space to retreat and reset. Vaulted oak ceilings and a neutral palette create a sense of calm and continuity. Linen bedding, sun-washed tones, and sculptural lighting invite stillness, while the adjoining bath continues the story in stone, plaster, and patinated brass.
Every element was chosen for its touch and tone, ensuring that the space feels both restorative and timeless, a sanctuary shaped by nature and designed for peace.
07 Guest Suites
Each guest suite in the home was designed as its own quiet refuge, a continuation of the home’s natural palette and serene rhythm. Layered in soft linens, warm woods, and sun-washed neutrals, the rooms reflect a refined simplicity that feels both welcoming and restorative.
Textural bedding in earthy tones brings depth without distraction, while details from aged bronze sconces to organic tile lend character and ease. The adjoining baths extend the story of understated beauty. Each one is unique yet cohesive. Together, they balance texture and tone, offering guests the same sense of quiet luxury found throughout the home.
